The Myth of the “Natural CEO” By Neil Seeman
I hear a lot from “leadership experts” nowadays. There are popular management books about “authentic leaders” – about guys (examples selected tend to be mostly men) who personify that charismatic “it”: that unarticulated mix of character traits that constitutes the “natural leader”. I’ll bet . . . More.

1. Ghostwriting is bad medicine, say critics (Toronto Star)
   Medical ghostwriting, it seems, operates a lot like the essay-writing firms that tempt students to pay someone else to write their term papers – except there's much more money involved. According to documents released in court this week, Wyeth hired Princeton, N.J.-based DesignWrite Inc., a medical communications company, in 1997 to write up to 30 articles on HRT for publication in respected academic journals between 1998 and 2005. For one study in 2003, DesignWrite billed Wyeth $25,000 (U.S.). DesignWrite's job was to prepare medical articles and then recruit an expert in the field to review the work and put his or her name on the top, claiming to be the author. The articles would then be submitted for publication to a respected medical journal, which would be unaware of DesignWrite's role. More, in the Toronto Star. Much more here. 8. Workers at the Sodexo Peach Arch Call Centre in White Rock have voted to ratify a new contract that gives them a 2.56 per cent general wage increase, as well as a signing bonus for both full time and part time workers.
9. BC Cancer Agency Ambulatory Care Unit can potentially reduce patient wait times by 70% while decreasing physical space requirements by 25%. Details here.
10. The Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion (OAHPP) will study risk factors for infection by the pandemic H1N1 flu virus, and will help to estimate how many people are likely to get sick from the virus in the future. More here.
11. Caregivers in Nova Scotia will be eligible for the caregiver allowance of $400 per month; both the person who requires care and the person providing the care must meet certain program criteria. More.
12. In the Greater Toronto Area, both Trillium Health Centre and Humber River Regional Hospital have teamed with 15 other healthcare organizations that make up the Shared Information Management Services (SIMS).
