Significant announcements
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care May 22nd announcement (PDF) on investments in shorter ER Wait Times. The OHA was pleased to see the investment of $55 million Pay-for-Results program expanded from 23 hospitals to 46 hospitals. These hospitals are provided with funding incentives to meet targets and reduce time people spend in the ER.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care May 19th announcement investing $272 million to help in the transformation of the Home and Community Care for Seniors Aging at Home program. Such investments should help reduce ER Wait times further.

He is the first Canadian to have lived and worked in space and in the ocean.

Martin Brotman
A renowned gastroenterologist and internal medicine researcher, educator and practitioner, sought-after speaker on subjects ranging from clinical issues to healthcare economics, Brotman is a leader recognized for his clinical expertise and dedication to his patients. In 2008, Brotman received the AGA Julius Friedenwald Medal, the highest honour the association bestows on its members.
Sister Elizabeth Davis has led a life of outstanding contribution to the public through her work as an educator, inspirational speaker and effective health care administrator in Newfoundland. Her expertise and dedication to the needs of patients and their families have been recognized locally, nationally and internationally.
John Dirks, doctor, educator and scientist, has been recognized around the world for his kidney research and academic leadership.
Mark Greene, pioneering cancer researcher, has made significant discoveries that have led to new chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatments, leading to practical applications in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
