Longwoods eLetter February 17, 2009

QUOTE
“Of the many health policy issues beyond my comprehension, none has baffled me more than the relative failure of nurse practitioners. The matching of skill sets to the task at hand is so elementary, and the vigorous support of nurse practitioners would have enabled them to carry a large portion of the health service burden” 2001. Dr. Alan Hudson.
And then there’s health care. By Steven Lewis
We’ve pursued every conceivable simple and simple-minded solution to what ails it. First it was not enough money. So we doubled spending in a decade. Then it was not enough technology. So we quintupled imaging capacity. Then it was not enough doctors and nurses. So we threw open the gates to the academy, signed fat contracts with unions (35% over 4 years for nurses in Saskatchewan, big increases for doctors, their details deliberately obscured to conceal their magnitude), eased the path to licensure for international graduates, and sat back to await the arrival of wait-free paradise.
