“...Canada was preoccupied with the delivery of healthcare, but "when we identify the present main causes of sickness and death in Canada, we find that they are rooted in the other three elements of the concept: human biology, environment and lifestyle. It is apparent, therefore, that vast sums are being spent treating diseases that could have been prevented in the first place" HealthcarePapers, 7(3) 2007 - The Public Health System in Canada

Today's Question: As a researcher in healthcare, there are concerns regarding the flow of health data especially since PIPEDA was enacted. How can I ensure privacy does not have to be a impediment to our research?
Answer
Researchers should embrace data protection laws because they help construct trust in research practices, mitigate the commercial imperatives that flow from the fact that research is a public-private enterprise and protect the accuracy of data.
