“Being a Newfoundlander means having a special way of seeing the world, a set of values of which I am unabashedly proud. From a leadership perspective, there are two: first, seeing and challenging others to see the bigger picture and the context of our larger reality; second, tenacious attention to achieving the vision. Within that larger vision, I don't see obstacles as barriers, but as challenges and opportunities." – Sister Elizabeth Davis
OFF THE CUFF

Everything you ever wanted to know about Richard Alvarez. No holds barred.
Richard Alvarez, CEO of Canada Health Infoway, will be interviewed by Dr. Penny Ballem in Vancouver (March 16, 2007) and Matthew Anderson in Toronto (May 15, 2007). This is part of the Breakfast with the Chiefs series. The interviewers would like to know: What have you always wanted to ask Mr. Alvarez that we can ask on your behalf. Don’t be shy. Please let us know by sending a note by email to QuestionsForAlvarez@longwoods.com

Mini Medical Rounds – NEW. Transforming the Patient Experience
Longwoods’ Mini Medical Rounds will start in March ‘07. This is part of a program looking at ways and means that healthcare policy makers, researchers and providers can facilitate, support, advance and sustain the escalating role of patients in managing their own healthcare. The first of these rounds will be a conversation between Michael Decter and executives of large employer groups. Mr. Decter, and his co-author Francesca Grosso, will address ways and means to leverage the challenges and opportunities that our complex system provides. For more information please contact the publisher: Anton Hart, at ahart@longwoods.com.

Doctors are the least likely to wash their hands.
". . . when I was a medical resident, nobody taught me to wash my hands, nobody told me it was important. I'd happily round on 30 patients and not wash my hands once because that was the norm."  Click here
