February 22, 2008: Toronto, ON. The Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario is hosting a conference on their initiative to develop a common set of principles for hospitals negotiating clinical study contracts with industry. The purpose of the conference is to share the principles document with front-line contract negotiators, to encourage its adoption in clinical study agreement negotiations across the province. Facilitated discussions will be held among the conference participants with members of the CAHO Steering Committee; conference participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the document. The principles document, Statement of Principles to be Considered when Negotiating a Clinical Studies Agreement, is available on the CAHO website: www.caho-hospitals.com. This two day conference will examine three themes: 1) how technology and consumer empowerment are leading to innovations in the delivery of healthcare (on an individual level), 2) fostering an organizational culture that supports the use of research evidence and innovation (at the organizational level), and 3) exploring how research, evidence and innovation are being used to  inform policy and the future of health care (at a systems level).
